जिस तरह मुंबई में 27 नवंबर 2008 की घटना जुड़ी है ठीक उसी तरह अहमदाबाद में हुए 26 जुलाई 2008 की यादें भी जुड़ी जो इस घटना को कभी भूलने नही देती। आखिरकार अहमदाबाद सीरियल ब्लास्ट मामले में 38 दोषियों को फांसी की सजा का ऐलान हो गया है। बाकी 11 आरोपियों को उम्रकैद की सज़ा हुई है। गौरतलब कि आठ फरवरी को सिटी सिविल कोर्ट ने 26 जुलाई 2008 को अहमदाबाद में हुए सीरियल ब्लास्ट मामले में 78 में से 49 आरोपियों को यूएपीए (गैरकानूनी गतिविधियां (रोकथाम) अधिनियम) के तहत दोषी करार दिया था। इनमें से एक 1 आरोपी अयाज सैयद को जांच में मदद करने के आरोप में बरी किया जा चुका है। वहीं अन्य 29 सबूतों के अभाव में बरी हो चुके हैं। बता दें कि 26 जुलाई 2008, यही वह दिन था जब 70 मिनट के दौरान 21 बम धमाकों ने अहमदाबाद की रूह को हिलाकर रख दिया। शहर भर में हुए इन धमाकों में कम से कम 56 लोगों की जान गई, जबकि 200 लोग घायल हुए थी। धमाकों की जांच-पड़ताल कई साल चली और करीब 80 आरोपियों पर मुकदमा चला। पुलिस ने अहमदाबाद में 20 प्राथमिकी दर्ज की थी, जबकि सूरत में 15 अन्य प्राथमिकी दर्ज की गई थी, जहां विभिन्न स्थानों से भी जिंदा बम बरामद किए गए थे। इस मामले में सूरत में 15 और अहमदाबाद में 20 शिकायतें दर्ज की गई थीं। देश के अलग-अलग शहरों से कुल 78 लोगों को अरेस्ट किया गया था। जबकि ब्लास्ट में शामिल आठ अन्य आरोपियों की तलाश अभी भी जारी है। सीरियल बलास्ट का मास्टर माइंड यासीन भटकल दिल्ली की जेल में, जबकि अब्दुल सुभान उर्फ तौकीर कोचीन की जेल में बंद है।
