शाहिस्ता ने न्यायपालिका से इंसाफ की गुहार लगाते हुए कहा कि मेरे शौहर बेकसूर थे। एक सोची-समझी साजिश के तहत चोरी का आरोप लगाकर मार दिया गया। अगर समय रहते उनका इलाज होता तो वह बच जाते। पुलिस प्रशासन और चिकित्सकों की लापरवाही के कारण मेरी दुनिया उजड़ गई। उन्होंने कानून को हाथ में लेकर मेरे पति को पीट-पीट कर मौत के घाट उतारने वाले दोषियों को मौत की सजा एवं लापरवाही बरतने वाले पुलिस पदाधिकारी, चिकित्सा पदाधिकारी को नौकरी से बर्खास्त कर कानूनी कार्रवाई की मांग की।

17 जून की रात धातकीडीह गांव में चोरी के आरोप में ग्रामीणों ने तबरेज अंसारी पकड़ लिया। फिर उसे बांधकर रातभर ग्रामीण उसे पीटते रहे। 18 जून को इसकी सूचना पुलिस को मिली। पुलिस ने तबरेज को ग्रामीणों से छुड़ाकर सदर अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया। जहां चिकित्सकों से स्वस्थ होने का हवाला देकर पुलिस को सौंप दिया। पुलिस ने उसे जेल भेज दिया। 22 जून को उसकी तबीयत बिगड़ी तो जेल पुलिस ने सदर अस्पताल भेजा था। जहां चिकित्सकों ने उसे मृत घोषित कर दिया था।
